Beyond Academics

Arts and Sports

CHIREC culture has always valued participation and teamwork and lays a strong emphasis on co-curricular activities. The school was founded on the principle of imparting holistic education with an equal emphasis on arts, sports and academics. The Physical Education Curriculum at school provides the right balance of activities to develop children’s gross and fine motor skills.

The CHIREC Early Years Programme for Pre-Primary students is founded on the idea of exploration and experience. Students engage in various Arts & Sports activities throughout the day. In Primary and Secondary school, students spend an average of 4 to 5 hours a week on Arts and Sports activities.

Arts

CHIREC’s arts curriculum blends creativity, divergent thinking, and perseverance together to support students as they broaden their awareness of the world around them. Students work in dedicated spaces to explore a range of art forms across a variety of activities, including Painting, Sketching, Pottery, Embroidery, 3-D Construction, Fashion Design & Textiles, Carnatic & Hindustani Music, Guitar, Keyboard, Kuchipudi Dance, etc.

Performance Arts through Music and Theater help students develop skills and techniques that transfer into all of their creative endeavours at school and in life. These skills are assessed regularly throughout the terms in order to measure progress and move through the different levels of the art they’ve chosen, during their time at school. By incorporating these elements into the curriculum, CHIREC supports students as they focus on storytelling, movement, and self-expression.

In addition to developing better writers and more nimble thinkers, writing and literature allow students to practice a deeper kind of thinking than normally focused on in a classroom setting. At CHIREC, the literary arts curriculum helps students develop their ability to think abstractly, and to communicate effectively.

Sports

The sports curriculum at CHIREC is planned and designed for students to develop and enhance skills such as strength, speed, endurance, agility, flexibility, control, balance, as well as team-work, leadership, confidence and self-discipline.

CHIREC International’s campuses have a well-maintained athletics track, cricket pitch, world-class basketball and tennis courts, volleyball and handball courts, synthetic turf, and a skating rink. The school offers 10 different activities and games to choose from. These include Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Tennis, Skating, Table Tennis, Handball, Volleyball, Archery, Aerobics and Gymnastics. We believe sports is an integral part of the education of a child and allow students to explore a variety of sports before choosing their specialization in Secondary classes.

PET Classes:

Students from Nursery to Class 2 are engaged in a range of exercises focused on the upper body, lower body and core that help in body development, coordination and balance. Students from classes 3 to 5 learn 8 different sports over the course of 3 years. During this time, the natural growth of the student along with body training is studied and an analysis is prepared for each student. In classes 6 to 12, students are encouraged to pick one sport to train in and play competitively. Skill & Fitness Assessments are evaluated once a year for Nursery to Grade 5 and twice a year for Grade 6 and above.

After-School Coaching:

The school also offers specialized after-school coaching for all students who wish to take their skills to the next level. Students at CHIREC also attend several sports events and competitions at inter-school, state, national and international levels throughout the year. Some of our teams are well-known at the state and national levels.

The coaches at CHIREC are energetic and experienced and help students develop sportsmanship spirit, fair play, and teach them the ability to work hard and collaborate. We have also partnered with EduSports, a reputed Indian sports education organization, to implement a structured and holistic sports curriculum at CHIREC. All coaches and activity staff at the school are offered professional development courses before and during the start of the academic year to constantly improve the quality of coaching.

Balance with Academics:

Students pursuing professional sports often undergo rigorous coaching and travel frequently for events. Through individualized support systems, CHIREC encourages students and nurtures their talents and interests beyond academics.
